About

The Web Publishing site brings together Australian Government resources for website management.  It makes it easy for Australian Government agencies to:

  • Discern their legal and policy obligations
  • Access policies, guidance and examples of better practice.

For each topic, the guide directs you to resources provided by the responsible Australian Government agency (or other organisation).

The site is managed by the Australian Government Information Management Office in the Department of Finance and Deregulation. It was launched in May 2007.

Agency Legal and Policy Obligations

Whilst the site aims to make clear the relevant legal and policy requirements, agencies should be aware that they also have other broader obligations (eg financial management, procurement, etc) that may be applicable to the online environment.

Also, this guide is intended to supplement any agency-specific guidelines relating to websites, not replace them.

Content

Content is selected in accordance with our Information Governance Policy.  Content should:

  • Focus on online publishing
  • Aim at Australian Government agencies (not focus on an individual agency)
  • Have some authority within the Australian Government
  • Be the most current information available

In conjunction with other agencies, we also review content and add more resources.
