1997

In 1997, the Office of Government Information Technology (OGIT) and the Government Internet Committee were established.  OGIT had prescribed requirements in relation to Commonwealth information published on the internet.

In December 1997, the Prime Minister's Industry Statement "Investing for Growth" demonstrated the government's commitment to getting government online, saying that the main engines for change were the internet and electronic commerce.
