Planning a Website
Before beginning a web project it is important to understand what you are trying to achieve, how you will achieve it, how long it may take and the likely expense of the project.
Planning a website involves:
- getting a feel for what other similar sites have done by doing a competitor analysis
- understanding your audience and their needs now and into the future
- mapping the topics and content that you would like to cover
- choosing a project management methodology to help steer the project
- looking for alignment between your site and its objectives with other organisational strategies and projects.
Tell Me About?
To further establish control and measurement of your web initiative it is important to understand the Website Lifecycle.
Why Must I?
There are no mandatory Australian Government requirements for this topic. However, a CEO is required to manage the affairs of the agency in a way that promotes proper use of Commonwealth resources as outlined in the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997 and the Commonwealth Authorities and Companies Act 1997. An important step in demonstrating accountability is to plan all web and content projects.
