RSS

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication. In its simplest form, it’s another way to distribute news and announcements over the internet.  It is a tool to complement and enhance your existing online publishing system, make your site more visible to search engines and enhance digital public relations.

Tell Me About?

RSS is well-suited to interoperability and syndication. For example, an RSS feed of a minister's media releases can be aggregated to appear simultaneously on the department's home page or the department's media release page, along with other relevant media releases from within the department.

RSS is particularly well-suited to regularly-updated web-based information including:

  • Latest publications
  • Media releases
  • Latest news.

If you are creating this type of content, consider complementing it with an RSS feed as a means of keeping visitors informed after they leave your site.

When properly harnessed, RSS can give your agency, minister or department a wider, more immediate means of making their message heard with a minimal amount of cost and effort.

Why Must I?

There are no mandatory Australian Government requirements for this topic.
